Long Beach, CA

“It’s exciting to receive this of course, especially two years in a row and in just my 2nd year back. I owe it all to my team, the people here tonight and my sponsors including Cool-Cups Natural Snacks.” Madsen commented. “Now it’s time to look forward. I’m proud to say that I’ve learned and proved everything I set out to do in this series quicker than even I expected. I will be focusing on some new exciting driving opportunities in 2011, but I won’t forget the challenges I faced here these past two years.”

The team got off to a quick start with Pearlman starting the first round of driving for the team followed by Madsen, Eggleton and Rosenberg. From there the “Rotary Racers” continued on to lead 197 of 200 laps and take the win by over 3 laps from their nearest competitor.

Winning isn't Everything, Madsen Motorsports Supports JDRF Charity
10/12/10
Newport Beach, CA

The Madsen Motorsports team remains busy even after winning the 2010 Performance Touring F So-Cal Championship. Now the team continues to make an impact, but off the race track. Kevin Madsen and the team have been long time supporters of a variety of charitable causes. Some examples include Project Access, for which the team raffled Race-Car Ride-Along seats away for hundreds of donation dollars and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, for which Madsen donates time as a mentor and advisor as well as charitable dollars towards an annual college scholarship and advertising space on the #82 Cool-Cups Mazda.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) is yet another charity that the team is actively involved with and the team has recently committed further to the cause. The Madsen Motorsports team has made another financial contribution to JDRF and is also gathering members to participate in the upcoming “Walk to Cure Diabetes” in local Orange County.

JDRF is a leader in setting the agenda for diabetes research worldwide, and is the largest charitable funder of, and advocate for, type 1 diabetes research. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Kevin Madsen Still Holds National Track Record at Miller Motorsports Park
9/21/10
Newport Beach, CA

As the National Auto Sport Association racing season comes to an end, the track record that Madsen set at the site of the 2009 National Championships remains untouched. The quick lap time of 2:21.466 for the outer-course at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah remains for yet another year. While the record stands, the two-time So-Cal Performance Touring Champion was unable to compete at the 2010 event due to his motor suffering catastrophic failures just prior.

“We’re not ones to usually focus on track records, but it’s good to know that this year nobody came close to Kevin’s time. (They were) like over 4 seconds off-pace. If the motor didn’t go (fail) right beforehand, he would have had something for them again, but that’s Racing.” Crew Chief Westley Elliott remarked.

Racing for the Green: Team Unveils Winning Environmental Initiatives
8/23/10
Newport Beach, CA

Madsen Motorsports has announced the green initiatives that place the team as a leader both on and off the track during the 2010 racing season and beyond. The green movement is a result of the racing team’s ongoing concern regarding global warming, the environment and reducing dependency on foreign fuels and energy sources.

"The choice to race a Mazda was obvious, because they are the makers of some of the fastest and most reliable cars on the market today,” commented Kevin Madsen, Driver and Founder – Madsen Motorsports. “But it’s also important that they’re at the cutting edge of going green.”

Mazda Motor Corporation has been committed to achieving excellence and safety performance balanced with environmental consciousness for many years. Most notably in the summer of 2009, Mazda was at the forefront of the green racing movement when it introduced a fuel combining both ethanol and biobutanol in one of its racing cars participating in the Petit Le Mans race. By entering the gasoline, ethanol, biobutanol-blend fueled car, while withholding it from earning points in the series race, showed Mazda’s determination in bringing clean, efficient and environmentally sensitive technological advancements to motorsports. Through opportunities like the Le Mans series, the corporation is also able to properly test its new forward thinking technologies prior to releasing them for public consumption.

Echoing the actions of the car brand the team relies on, Madsen Motorsports has been doing its part to reduce their ecological footprint in all aspects, from the ride to the track, to pit row: “As a team we take it a step further by using only recyclable products in the pit, synthetic oils which use less petroleum and require fewer changes, and we also run our tow equipment strictly on biodiesel fuel for every event.” notes crew chief Westley Elliott.

Even the team's partner sponsors are members of the green movement in their own right. Toyo Tires continues to develop new products like low-rolling resistance tires which minimize energy wasted and ultimately a decrease in fuel consumption. Cool-Cups creates animal and dairy-free vegan treats in recyclable packaging while also sponsoring efforts to support ocean saving events.

The back-to-back championship winning team knows that there are a number of challenges already to be had in racing without making this commitment, but the road ahead will be paved with green either way. “Winning isn’t easy but we want to make sure our planet is around much longer than we are in the Winners’ Circle” said Madsen.

The back-to-back championship winning Madsen Motorsports team is prepared to provide thrills yet again to fans at the upcoming Mazfest and Ride-Along event at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Driver Kevin Madsen will be piloting the Mazdatrix PTA RX7 as he whips fans and sponsors around the famous NASCAR oval and road course at speeds up to 140mph.

Madsen Motorsports Clinches Back-to-Back Regional Championships
8/1/10
Fontana, CA

The Madsen Motorsports team set out to their home track this weekend with the chance of clinching the 2010 So-Cal Performance Touring Championship and even with significant challenges, they accomplished the feat for the 2nd year in a row. The weekend started with Madsen guiding the #82 Cool-Cups Mazda to pole position in qualifying and a race victory on Saturday at Auto Club Speedway. A medical emergency cut the race short and that kept the pressure on the young driver from Newport Beach, CA, but he still emerged atop the podium. This was Madsen’s 9th race of the season and 9th victory in a strong 2nd season back in the sport.

Victory became bittersweet on Sunday as the day played out, however. Madsen took pole position yet again in qualifying, staying ahead of fellow Mazda driver David Varco, but problems emerged in the main race. Madsen led the first few laps by a number of seconds, after taking the green. Shortly thereafter though at high speeds in the banked NASCAR turn 1 at Auto Club Speedway, signs of engine problems emerged.

“(Kevin) is calm on the radio considering what he’s up against sometimes, but I could feel the disappointment this time. Seeing the car give up the lead and come down the pits… drove that home even more.” Crew member Brett Madsen commented.

Failure of a part within the cooling system was enough to cause expensive permanent engine damage in just seconds to the Crossfit Costa Mesa sponsored car. After noticing the problem immediately, and radioing it in to the crew, Madsen cautiously guided the car around the track and down pit lane for further examination and cooling. After realizing the unavoidable damage that was done, the team decided to take the car back out on the last lap. The remaining points gained from finishing the race would be enough to clinch the 2010 Regional Championship. While not how any driver wants to guide their championship winning race car around the track, Kevin Madsen limped the Cool-Cups Mazda around for the checkered and clinched his 2nd consecutive Performance Touring Championship in just his 2nd year back.

In the paddock, Kevin Madsen managed a smile, “For now, I am just so proud of everything this Cool-Cups Madsen Motorsports team has accomplished in such a short period of time. If you told me about a year and a half ago that we’d have 4 championships by now I don’t know what I’d think. I’ll deal with the motor misfortune and all that tomorrow. I've never been called lucky, but that's fine by me.”

Season Streak Continues for Kevin Madsen: 9 Races, 9 Wins

Hot Conditions and Hotter Competition No Match for Cool-Cups Mazda at Buttonwillow
6/27/10
Buttonwillow, CA

Warm weather at Buttonwillow Raceway Park near Bakersfield made things challenging for many drivers this past weekend. The Madsen Motorsports team was just one of many in the paddock making adjustments to their car to compensate for the hot conditions. Despite an ill handling race car at times on Saturday, Madsen was able to pilot the #82 Cool-Cups Mazda to the top time in qualifying yet again. In the main race that day, Madsen took the green and continued to lead, but a serious incident late in the race had many spectators and drivers concerned. A dangerous, high speed collision of a Mazda RX8 into the retaining barrier near the Esses brought out the safety car and medical crews. With only a few laps left in the race and extensive time needed to address the incident, the race ended under yellow/checkered with Madsen emerging victorious in his 7th race this season. The driver involved in the crash was okay although serious damage had been done to the race car and it was out for the remainder of the weekend.

Even with the extremely hot conditions in the LoudOcean sponsored car's cockpit, Sunday was another day at the office for the Madsen Motorsports team. Madsen looked very strong in morning practice after further adjustments to the car and then snatched pole position again in qualifying. The race saw Kevin lead from green flag to checkered with no problems at all. This was the teams 8th race this season and subsequently their 8th victory. Keep up to date with all the happenings for the championship leading Madsen Motorsports team as they head to their home track, Auto Club Speedway in just over a month.

Madsen Battles Illness, Weather, Competition Yet Triumphs Again at Willow Springs
5/23/10
Rosamond, CA

The famous Willow Springs International Raceway has dealt teams a tough hand thus far in the 2010 Performance Touring Series and this past weekend was no exception. While there was no rain in these events compared to the Season Opener in February, there was still difficult weather. With winds gusting well over 35mph, it added a significant challenge for even the best teams. Add driver illness to the already tricky equation of poor weather, tough competition and some of the highest speeds of any track in Southern California and you get a view of what driver Kevin Madsen endured the first day of competition.

Speaking after he grabbed pole position in qualifying on Saturday, Driver Kevin Madsen talked more on his condition, “Not good. I’ve got a real bad case of food poisoning and I’m just doing my best to keep hydrated. Hey things could always be worse though, the wind is bad, but at least it’s not pouring or 120 degrees. We’ll get it done.”

Get it done they certainly did, as Madsen guided the #82 Cool-Cups car to victory in Saturday’s race even after a collision with another competitor. Not given enough room by the smaller sports racer, the two cars made contact outside of turn two at high speeds in the windy conditions. Madsen miraculously held on to win and gapped his nearest competitor by over 11 seconds at the challenging track.

Sunday’s competitions were similarly victorious for the Madsen Motorsports team . Winds had died down slightly and Driver Kevin Madsen looked like a new man after the worst of his food poisoning bout had passed. Madsen raised the bar in qualifying by taking pole position again as well as setting a new track record. He then went on to win Sunday’s race and finished over 15 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor, Dave Varco.

Crew Chief Westley Elliott commented on the challenging, yet successful weekend, “The guy (Madsen) couldn’t keep any food or water in him, the winds were insane, this amateur was running into him, the competition was right on him and he stayed quiet and took pole both days, a track record, and wins in both races. Diligence and commitment. Diligence and commitment.”

Kevin Madsen and Cool-Cups Mazda to Star in Toyo Tires / World Challenge Commercial
4/28/10
Newport Beach, CA

The Long Beach Grand Prix proved to be a successful event for the Madsen Motorsports team. Their sponsors were forefront in the eye of tens of thousands of spectators and the talents of Regional and National Champion Kevin Madsen did not go unnoticed either. After signing autographs in the LBGP race car display area, Madsen quickly prepared to complete filming for his role in an upcoming Toyo Tires and World Challenge commercial.

After film crews had setup cameras outside the paddock at the Long Beach street course and attached special cameras to the Cool-Cups Mazda RX7 race car itself, it wasn’t long before a crowd had gathered to see what was about to happen. They were in for a show after Madsen completed some technical turns in the extremely small space. The next order of business was melting those Toyo tires in a series of both wide and tight “donuts” blasting out much-appreciated smoke and noise for the cameras and fans in attendance.

Famous motorsports announcer and Producer/Director of World Challenge on Versus TV, Tom Hnatiw, spoke on the filming - “We asked Kevin to pull off a fairly tough stunt in a very confined space in a stone cold race car fresh off of a display, and we asked him to pull it off in less than ten minutes. He did what he had to do to get the job done and impressed all of us with his car control and his sense of where the camera was and what we were trying to capture. That's very rare. This guy can drive, but not only that he gets how our business works.”

Keep an eye out for commercials and other appearances like this for Driver Kevin Madsen on Versus TV, YouTube and more.

4/26/10
Newport Beach, CA

The Long Beach Grand Prix is the largest “street” circuit race in the USA and it showed this past weekend. Spectators and fans from all walks of life poured into the stands near the Long Beach boardwalk and into the Convention Center. Organizers estimated over 175,000 fans passed by the booth spaces at the Grand Prix, including the SCCA Cal-Club spot where the #82 Madsen Motorsports car was showcased. Current sponsors such as Cool-Cups Natural Snacks, LoudOcean Vehicle Wraps, Crossfit Costa Mesa and others were extremely pleased with the marketing results of the weekend.

In addition, the more relaxed atmosphere compared to a typical race weekend, gave Driver Kevin Madsen time to connect with numerous fans of road racing, rotary Mazdas and the Madsen Motorsports team. Madsen could often be seen signing autographs of his poster card while the Madsen Motorsports Cool-Cups girls distributed team shirts, hats and sponsor products. The exposure for the team, its sponsors and the added fanbase definitely made the event a success. Looking ahead, the 2009 National Championship winner is excited for similar future opportunities to get face-to-face with more fans as well as showcase sponsor products to potential consumers.

National Champion Madsen Motorsports Car to Debut at 2010 Long Beach Grand Prix
3/31/10
Newport Beach, CA

Over 175,000 fans are expected to pass by the Cal Club - Sports Car Club of America booth at the world famous 2010 Long Beach Grand Prix, April 16-18. The Madsen Motorsports #82 Mazda is one of the cars that will be on display representing the racing organization and thus providing incredible exposure opportunities for the current sponsors of the team.

The televised event features the American Le Mans Series, IndyCar, World Challenge, the Toyota Pro/Celebrity race, drifting and more in addition to a huge lifestyle expo that includes other various race cars and displays. Kevin Madsen will be in attendance discussing the benefits of racing and working with the California Sports Car Club and the SCCA while also distributing free handouts on the racing organization and his team. Additionally, free product from some of his sponsors, including Cool-Cups Natural Snacks, will be available to fans.

When asked about if he would participate in one of the many races over the weekend, 2010 PTF points leader Kevin Madsen smiled and replied, "I think that's a dream of many and this probably isn't the year. A couple years ago after I won the PRO7 championship and was competing in Formula SAE, I was offered a test for a spot with a Formula Atlantic team that would compete in Long Beach. Well, needless to say I may be fast, but only when I fit in a car. My future at the races like the GP are in American Le Mans or World Challenge type cars."

Come out to the Long Beach Grand Prix and stop by and visit the National Champion Madsen Motorsports car on display. Madsen makes his next appearance back in the driver seat with wheel-to-wheel racing in late May at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, CA.

Kevin Madsen puts Cool-Cups LoudOcean Car in Victory Lane at Auto Club Speedway
3/14/10
Fontana, CA

Coming off 2 wins at the 2010 Performance Touring Season Opener, the Madsen Motorsports team was looking to continue their streak at the world famous Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. The conditions were mostly pleasant and the competition hot as the 3rd and 4th races of the season commenced.

Kevin Madsen guided his Cool-Cups Natural Snacks and LoudOcean Graphics sponsored car to the pole position in qualifying both days as well as the top place upon the podium in each race as well. The accomplishment was significant considering the team had its share of challenges to overcome. Late in one race, a competitor overshot a corner under heavy braking causing damage to the otherwise clean silver Mazda driven by Madsen.

"That sort of thing will happen. I can't fault him for the mistake too much. Now we just need to find a body shop sponsor to help us repair the fender damage before our debut in front of over 175,000 fans at the Long Beach Grand Prix in a few weeks. I'm sure someone will step up to the plate in exchange for the massive publicity." - Kevin Madsen

Keep an eye out for more updates from the season points leading Madsen Motorsports team. In just a short time, they will wheel their revamped LoudOcean wrapped race car out to tens of thousands of fans at the Long Beach Grand Prix April 16-18 at the Streets of Long Beach and Long Beach Convention Center.

Madsen Wins Wet and Wild Season Opener at Willow Springs
2/7/10
Rosamond, CA

The 2010 season opener for the National Auto Sport Association So-Cal Performance Touring Series was not without its share of incidents due to the extremely poor weather conditions. Despite the challenges, the Madsen Motorsports team successfully navigated through the fog, heavy rain and away from accidents on track to take the first win of the season. The #82 Cool-Cups Mazda was on the pole position following a successful qualifying run and after a great start in the race, there was no turning back. Madsen cut through the field taking the win and finishing ahead of cars multiple classes faster.

“You can’t let the conditions affect you. I focused on smooth, consistent laps like always, avoided some wrecks and it paid off. It’s great to start off the year with a big win and put our sponsors like Cool-Cups and LoudOcean in the Winners Circle again.” remarked 2009 National Champion, Kevin Madsen.

More Savvy Businesses Sign on as Team Sponsors for 2010
1/25/10
Newport Beach, CA

The Madsen Motorsports team attributes much of their success in 2009 to the strong support they received from quality businesses looking for increased brand recognition through cutting-edge motorsports marketing. One such notable enterprise was Cool-Cups Natural Snacks, the company that produces the sweet, refreshing natural gels found at Whole Foods and Mother’s Market. Also, Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development played a key role with the team and on any given weekend, there are more Mazdas on the Road-Race tracks of America then any other brand. LoudOcean Designs is the Orange County based graphics design and vehicle wraps company known for the eye-catching graphics seen on the #82 car driven by Madsen. All these sponsors and more as well as the many fans and loyal supporters out there are what makes the wheels turn for the team and led to a 2009 National Championship title. For 2010, the team is excited to announce that many of the same sponsors will stay on board and will be joined by a few other savvy companies.

One such group is CrossFit Costa Mesa. This gym, which practices the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies, military special operations units and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide, has taken on Driver Kevin Madsen to train. With the G-tolerances, strength and intense focus required for long periods of time in the typically extreme temperature conditions of a high speed race car, this will no doubt prove an advantage for the team throughout the season.

Hawk Performance Brake has also returned to the “Clutch Fan” Sponsor Tier for Madsen Motorsports with an increased commitment to the team throughout 2010. Their high performance brake products can be found at all 4 corners of the car and their race pad technology trickles down to make their street and high performance pads the best around as well.

So-Cal Region PTF Championship Clinched by Madsen Motorsports
10/10/09
Buttonwillow, CA

With three races remaining in the season, Kevin Madsen was able to clinch the National Auto Sport Association So-Cal Region Championship today. A first place finish in Performance Touring F put the Cool-Cups Mazda driver in an even greater points lead and out of the reach of competitors. The joint event between So-Cal and Nor-Cal regions of NASA meant large fields of cars and plenty of incidents, but the Madsen Motorsports team was able to keep to their usual safe, consistent strategy and it paid off dividends.

No stranger to the winners circle in his first year back to professional road racing, Kevin Madsen has now taken a prestigious NASA National Championship title in September as well as a year-end Regional title now. His overall record in 28 career road races includes 12 wins and 25 podiums.

Champagne never tasted so good for the Southern California driver who completed his first National Championship event with a flawless record. Kevin Madsen guided his Mazda powered race car to the win in every qualifying session, qualifying race and finally the checkered in the 2009 NASA Performance Touring F National Championship Race outside Salt Lake City.

Kevin's Cool-Cups sponsored RX7 held up well even when debris on-course halfway through the race caused Kevin and other competitors to exit the Miller Motorsports track at a high rate of speed. Appropriately, a full course yellow was issued and the track was returned to safe conditions. This also meant that the healthy 7 second lead Madsen had worked consistently each lap to accomplish, was out the window.

Shortly after the restart, traffic from out-of-class cars caused Kevin to be passed. An anxious crowd watched as with less than two laps to go, Madsen pushed his Mazda back through the field and ultimately into the Winners Circle. The victory is a great accomplishment in Kevin Madsen's first year back to professional road racing and likely a sign of things to come in the future for the talented driver.

Madsen Sweeps Every Round of Championship Qualifying; Pole Position for Race
09/12/09
Tooele, UT

In the thin air outside Salt Lake City, Utah at the 2009 NASA National Championships, Kevin Madsen and the Madsen Motorsports team are displaying a spectacular performance thus far. Madsen has set the fastest time in each qualifying session and driven his Mazda on to win each qualifying race. These accomplishments have not come easy, however. During the start of the first qualifying race, an incident ahead in another class dropped Kevin back from 1st to 6th. Not accepting bad luck as an excuse, Madsen battled his Cool-Cups sponsored car through the pack consistently making passes each lap. With little time to go, Kevin set his fastest lap of the week thus far and ended up making the pass for 1st place.

Unfortunately, the second qualifying race had its own share of difficulties as well. A broken transmission mount with only 3 laps to go threatened the teams chance of finishing. Kevin Madsen explains, "I knew there was a serious problem, but I had been running consistently faster than the others, so I had a large gap. I noticed that being even smoother than normal on my throttle inputs lessened the noise and vibration, so I stuck with that and we made it."

The Madsen Motorsports team has repaired the issues with the 82 car thanks to parts support from Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development. Madsen looks now to Sunday where he will start on the pole for the 2009 Performance Touring F National Championship race.

Madsen Sets Impressive Pole Position in 29 Car Field; Race Ends in Photo Finish
06/08/09
Fontana, CA

Powering through a season marked with challenges, including an expensive motor failure in March, the Madsen Motorsports team continues to triumph. On Sunday, driver Kevin Madsen took the pole position in SCCA qualifying ahead of 28 other cars, many of which were in significantly faster classes. The action didn't end there, however, as Madsen led most of the final race until the last lap where an all-out battle began. Swapping positions with driver David Varco seemingly every corner, the two crossed the finish line on the Auto Club Speedway NASCAR oval at the same time. Soon after, an enthusiastic track announcer delivered the photo finish results to an anxious crowd with Varco barely beating Madsen by about 4/100ths of a second. The exciting 2nd place finish puts Kevin and his Mazda up to 2nd overall in the PRO-7 points race.
