Driver Biography

Kevin Madsen
Most successful drivers start their love affair with auto racing early and Kevin Madsen is no exception. At only a few weeks old, Kevin was taken to a local drag race in the Wisconsin area. His parents half-jokingly point out that ever since that horsepower-infused night, Kevin’s passion for motorsports competition has been ever-present.
From young beginnings in BMX and Motocross, to championship wins with a fresh drivers license in SCCA Solo 2 C Street Prepared and Street Modified, Madsen continued to grow as a competitor. “I had to pay for my own car and racing in addition to saving for college, so I never had the best prepped ride, but even today that gives me more time to focus on my technique and how I can personally excel as an athlete.” Indeed, he was able to excel even while deep into a college education at the University of California, Irvine. In 2002, while in his first full season after making the jump to road racing, Madsen captured the SCCA San Diego Region Pro-7 championship behind the wheel of his original Mazda RX7.
Fresh off numerous victories and into the 3rd year of his collegiate studies, Kevin's double major as well as a host of on-campus leadership positions were limiting the time he could spend on track. Madsen continued to compete and win, but solely as a driver for UCI’s Formula SAE program, providing valuable technical feedback on the cars handling and performance. Graduation and the following years saw Kevin leading businesses to the front of the "pack" more than race cars, but a brief driving opportunity at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany in 2008 was the path back to glory. In 2009, Kevin Madsen's first season back in professional road racing, he claimed 3rd in the SCCA Cal Club Pro-7 championship, took both the NASA Performance Touring F So-Cal and Nor-Cal Region Championship titles and also won the prestigious 2009 NASA Performance Touring F National Championship.
Kevin attributes his continued success to his passion for consistency and excellence, as well as the support he receives from a loyal group of family, friends, fans and sponsors. "Without the backing of Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development all these years as well as Cool Cups Natural Snacks and Loud Ocean Graphics, I could not have been as successful." Now looking to build upon his numerous triumphs in 2009, Madsen is excited for what opportunities exist in 2010 and beyond. Already he has won 9 out of the 10 races he participated in this season and clinched the 2010 NASA Performance Touring F So-Cal Championship title with 4 races still remaining this year. Additionally, Kevin volunteers as a professional driving instructor for numerous schools and organizations and he is actively fundraising to make a possible repeat victory attempt at the 2010 National Championships in September.
